Kiiran slept peacefully against her mother's middle section as the wind picked up slightly around their home. Mairel's daughter had the right to sleep peacefully. She had no responsibilities, she did not know or understand the changing world around her. An Aes Sedai visited the Three Fold Land in the world of dreaming and a wetlander had joined their clan. Only a sight-blinded fool or an innocent child would not see the changing happening and make something of it.
The Aes Sedai, Leala, had brought her Warder with her in tel'aran'rhiod. They were completely surrounded by wolves. After a few conversations with the Andoran girl, she found that she was in a very high position in the White Tower and that she wished to speak with the Wise Ones. Leala then assured them that she and her Warder were the only ones aware of this mission. She simply wished to learn from their wisdom. She let Corra take it from there. She and the Aes Sedai seemed to get along better than she did. Mairel had always thought Aes Sedai were close-minded and arrogant. Leala seemed only slightly arrogant and open to everything they had to say. She gave her input as well. All in all, it was a very informative meeting. It would have been a bit more enjoyable if perhaps she wasn't assigned the meeting like a child. At least her clan's Roof Mistress was there with her.
The wetlander was another thing entirely. The boy's name was Fenrir. The past two months with him had been very frustrating to say the least. He had tried to run away many times between his arrival and that day. Mairel had no idea why her elder daughter wanted to initiate this man as an Aiel. She had said something about showing a wetlander a life with ji'e'toh. The Wise One did not feel like fighting it, so she allowed it. She also didn't care if the boy stumbled into the Sight-Blinder's territory. He seemed to have a death wish of his own, anyway.
She drew in a breath and slowly let it out. This was the first moment of peace she had gotten for herself in so long, and all she could think of was what had kept the tranquility away. She closed her eyes and feigned sleep close to her young daughter's.

Fenrir looked around brushing the silky blond locks from his face when they came in front of his eyes. He gave a breath. There was sand farther then the eye could see. But he knew that just meant death would be in every direction so he didn't mind.
He rubbed the fading scars from his wrists. Once or twice he had to have his hands bound behind his back which were attached to his ankles, in attempts to keep him from running. It worked until he tore his wrists and used the blood from that to get his hands loose. He hadn't made it farther then a mile before he was captured again by the Aiel. They didn't really have to do much back then to subdue him, just smack the slowly healing wound at his side a few times or hit his chest.
But it had been two months since then and his wounds were fading soreness and scars. All the wounds but his mind. That was the one that troubled him the most. He was further then any forest could be plausible and yet he was still hearing the voices. He gave a sigh and tugged at the new clothes he had been given, which were brown, tan and gray and seemed to blend in with the surroundings. According to Alanza, the Aiel he had fought months earlier, he was now part of an Aiel clan. Though he didn't understand why, but he had been initiated into the Shaaraid or Sharad or something like that, he hadn't paid much attention since he didn't think he'd last very long anyway.
But he had met her mother as well. A woman named Mairel who was part of the group called 'The Wise Ones' the group seemed to reflect bits and pieces of the Women's Council back in his home town of Emond's Field. So he knew to stay wary of the group and those in it.
He looked around again to see nothing of importance to him and went back inside the tent he had been allowed to stay in and plopped down on the mats and took up his carving knife and some of the wood he had used from before the fight. It was almost finished and had worked on it during the times when he had been kept watch over and no one could see him work. He started fine tuning it and polishing it with some rough canvas and did the detail work with the tip of the knife.
Now if only he had some paint he could finish it. But at least one good thing came out of the wood carving even though he couldn't finish it. His mind was allowed to be clear and wander and to him it was bliss. He gave a sigh as he smiled and the brown lily he had made. It had been his favorite flower when he had lived back in Emond's Field and Four Kings. He gently tucked it underneath a pillow on the far side of the mats and pushed back another lock of blond hair as he sat up and laid down looking up at the 'ceiling' of the tent.

Themyr welcomed the sand under his feet. He had no need to run today. No, today, he felt confident that his fellow Red Shields would keep the peace while he was away for the moment. He felt it wise to check in on the newest member of the Shaarad clan, a young man who went by Fenrir. The boy had been initiated because Alanza, one of the Far Dareis Mai insisted. She had fought with the man and had won, but from what she had said, he fought well, especially for having been so handicapped. Fenrir had tried to run away from the hold many times, but was always brought back. He wanted the young man to want to stay, but not by force, so he thought he might drop by his tent and perhaps strike up a conversation.
Upon reaching the tent, the flipped back the cover and said, "I see you, Fenrir." It was good to make sure new initiates were taught customs and ji'e'toh. A simple greeting should not be that hard to remember, though. "May I speak with you a while?" he asked with a smile. The boy's eyes were so striking, but not because of their piercing nature. That was rather common in the Three Fold Land. The thing that grabbed his attention was the gold that seemed to be encroaching on the green of his irises. He wanted to know why they were like that. He had allowed the boy to enter his clan, he was at least entitled to know that.

He rubbed his head as he stared at the tent ceiling and wondered how long it would be before he would be completely mad. He knew it was creeping on him. Slowly but surely like a snake slithering across the grass to bite the ankles of man. He didn't know how much longer he had, he just hoped they'd put him down once he became a raving lunatic.
He looked up as he heard the tent flap open and a man stand there saying he could see him. He threw his body forward to sit up. His forearms rested on his knees. He asked to come in and talk to him for awhile. Fenrir just shrugged.
"You must me Themyr...The clan chief...I was told I might see you sometime soon. But if you wish to come in you need not ask, I am your subject, you can do as you wish."
Then remembering himself he stood up, stark straight and saluted Themyr. It had been so long since he had been in the army he had almost forgotten about ranks and authority. The Aiel were warriors, everyone knew that. So he suspected that they would follow chains of command or something along those lines. Higher ranking officers always were able to boss the grunts around and do what they wish without asking.
While he stood there in the salute he looked at the clan chief. He had shortly cropped blond hair, powerful muscles and scars etched all over his left arm. He couldn't see much more but the man definitely could put Fenrir down if it came to hand to hand combat and even thrown range combat.

Themyr let himself into the tent and let the flap fall back into place before settling onto one of the carpets arranged for the wetlander...no...he was an Aiel now. He was not surprised when Fenrir did not respond accordingly to the traditional greeting of his people, but...he would learn soon enough. The Wise Ones would see to that. Perhaps he would stay in one place with the Shaarad instead of running off again. He would not mind letting the newcomer into a warrior society if he decided to join one. He wished all his clan members shade and happiness.
"You must be Themyr...The clan chief...I was told I might see you sometime soon. But if you wish to come in you need not ask, I am your subject, you can do as you wish."
"'Subject'...that is an interesting term to use in this situation. However, clans for the Aiel work differently than governing structures in the wetlands," Themyr explained. It was going to be rather tedious to explain the ins and outs of ji'e'toh to someone who had not been raised with it in their every-day surroundings. However, he would leave that to the Wise Ones. He was simply in the boy's tent today to speak with him and see to his well being.
"I know the Wise Ones forced you into this way of life, but I wanted you to know that I want you to feel welcome here. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them, I'll do my best to answer."

Fenrir looked at Themyr as he spoke. It wasn’t until Themyr said that the clans worked differently then his lands. He knew it would be different, but not how different. He lowered his hand and stood there for a moment in thought. So far no one expected anything of him, and he didn’t expect himself to be grasping of the knowledge quickly either.
He looked down at his feet before sitting on the carpets and pillows again. Nothing seemed to go as it should be anymore. He was just a woodcarver’s son, he should never have left Four Kings to join the Army, everything has gone wrong since then. Him being the only survivor of the battle, his isolation in the forest for a year, his steady progression into insanity, and now his capture and forced initiation into the Aiel, the one group of people he had actually hoped on to kill him ended up being the group to take him in.
Themyr spoke again saying that if he had any questions he just had to ask. It made him laugh. There were some things you couldn’t help but laugh at. This being one of them, he doubted there would be any way this clan chief could help him bring back his sanity.
“Well I thank you for your hospitality but, I doubt there is anything you could do to help me short of killing me.”
He laughed at that too. Things seemed so much funnier when you knew that there was nothing else to lose.

Alanza made her way across the sands of her homeland supporting her clan's hold. Passing by her mother's home, she noticed that it was far too quiet. Perhaps Kiiran was asleep. She missed her little sister, but not enough to dwell on it. The little girl seemed to be the only thing that kept her mother going lately. Alanza knew there were other things that energized her mother, but Kiiran at least helped with the loneliness. Going past the small roof, the Maiden spotted the Shaarad clan chief entering the tent of Fenrir, the newest addition to the clan, a wetlander. Or rather, a former wetlander. He had been quite the handful in the last two months. No one seemed to understand him, and everyone avoided him.
While Alanza could not say that she understood him completely, she wanted to say that she could at least read him. There was something going on in the man's mind that he himself did not understand, that was certain. When he finally did give his name, he only gave his first name. Alanza had a small understanding for wetlander custom...they had a first name and a sirname. Or at least, that is the impression she grasped from those she had encountered who had wandering in on their own. He also seemed to want to die. That was definitely something strange among wetlanders. However, among her people, the want of death was viewed as something that a coward wanted.
"I see you, Fenrir, Themyr," she said, opening the flap of the tent before coming in completely, joining her clan chief on the carpets. In another situation, she would most likely have been told to leave the tent because the clan chief had entered, but she viewed Fenrir has her responsiblity since she had insisted he become part of her culture. That, and she knew Themyr well, he would not want her away from the tent. He was one of the clan chiefs that wanted the best for his clan.
The other man did not seem to grasp this well, though. She wanted to see him content in his station as well, but for a different reason than Themyr. While she could not explain this feeling completely, she expected that perhaps Fenrir would be happier in his new position if he took up something constructive...like a trade...or if he joined a Warrior society.

Fenrir looked up. It was Alanza, the Aiel he had fought earlier. He hadn't really seen her much, between the fight and then the fever from the wounds and then the whole council thing and the initiation he hadn't paid much attention to her, other then the fact that she seemed to really want him in this group which seemed really odd, at least to him anyway. But when she entered his eyes flickered from their mixed green and gold into a full emerald before returning to the contesting colors. She greeted Themyr and him and sitting on the carpets with them.
He nodded to her and shifted back a little bit as to let her have some room. He looked to Themyr and back to her warily. Something was up and he knew it couldn't be good. He started breathing slower as he smelled the scents of both of them. He gave a little shake, much like a shiver as the feeling passed. Themyr had smelled of sweat and work while Alanza had smelled more like oils and...care? No, that couldn't be right. How can you smell an emotion? Better yet, how in the name of Light could he smell anything? Was he really going insane?
He mentally shook it away only too hear a laugh, or more like a panting that could slightly be mistaken for laughing. So you are learning huh? The voice said. Good, you will need this in the Final Nights. Become strong Golden Bear for the Queen has further need of you. The voice spoke and faded into the lurking darkness of his mind.
Chills went up his spine as he heard that but he kept his composure even though his skin turned a shade lighter. What Queen? Andor's queen? That was the only queen he knew of. What other queen could they be talking about? And why was his head telling him this? Has his insanity crept this far without warning? He prayed it would just go away. Leave him in peace and maybe forge a new life or at least die with some of his sanity intact.
