To Tempt a Dragon... (Attn: Pierre)

Leroduca S’Daithyn stood facing the southern window within the decadent room, fingers drumming restlessly against the inside of his bicep. A grand courtyard adorned with a towering sculpture of a woman clad in transparent drapery captured the entire viewing area, yet over the walls of the enclosed space the Chosen could see a scant few buildings of Tanchico. The sun sat low in the western horizon, casting long, slim shadows across much of the garden, its light just licking the grand balcony outside of the room.

“It is beautiful, no?”

Leroduca did not turn to acknowledge the woman sitting in the chamber with him. He hadn’t desired her presence, yet she persisted on staying with him until Pierre arrived. Whether she was intent on winning his affections for a single night to sate her carnal needs, or looking to impress a man of importance, the Chosen was in no mood for dealing with pompous nobility.

Not in Tanchico, in any case.

The man’s business was with Lugard; more specifically, the Prince of Lugard. Rumors of the boy’s strength with the Power had become worthy of investigating further upon witnessing Keilyn’s channeling first-hand, however accidental it may have been. He was gifted with saidin, there was no arguing that, yet how strong was the fulcrum of the dilemma Leroduca had been endeavoring to sort out over the past few months. Given that the subject in question was of royalty, the chances to find the Prince alone were incredibly limited.

If they were to get to this Keilyn, the timing had to be perfect. And the figure to help him had to be competent, to ensure that everything went according to the Chosen’s plan. Petty wilder or not, a male who could channel was not a thing to be taken lightly.

Those within the network of Darkfriends were numerous, yet Leroduca wished not to include any other than another Chosen to aid him in this task. Those to employ were far and few, and most were already preoccupied with carrying out their own duties. Nonetheless, he had to select wisely, or be met with a myriad of issues born of his partner’s potential failure. Of course, anything that went awry in this plan could hardly be his fault, now could it?

So, Pierre seemed a likely candidate. They met a handful of times to discuss odds and ends, but tonight was the night they were to finalize the details.

If the ingrate ever showed up, that is.

Leroduca pulled himself from his reverie and stiffened, shooting the woman a pale-eyed glare. “Go and fetch your lord, lady. I grow tired of waiting,” was all he offered her, his cutting tone enough to send her fleeing from the room.

Good, let her be afraid.

Pierre sighed as he quickly buttoned up the last of the buttons that adorned his slightly rust colored red coat. Adorned with gold embroidery up and down it’s arms it was a piece of clothes only those who were nobles wore. Now, he was being interrupted from his day to listen to some petty request, they had better have a damn good reason for interrupting him. Leaving the cuffs unbuttoned and his collar hanging loose he ran a hand through his short brown hair making it look like he had actually done something with it.

Walking down the halls the steps of his many shadows trailing all around him as the glow of the lanterns was broken up by his image. Light steps that were purposeful and slightly a little dramatized and the pace that he was moving just screamed that he might tear someone’s head off if he was given a reason to. The door that he was told the man was waiting out was in front of him and as he got closer to it he let off some of his anger, but wasn’t afraid to be a little bit steamy.

Maids and servants that passed him as he was walking took one look at him and walked a bit faster adverting their eyes pretending to look at anything else. If for some reason they wished to talk to them they seemed to realize their concern wasn’t that great and quickly turned around to where they had came from. Letting him know he was displeased was one way to get them away from him and he through at this moment it was best they went about like they did for he had little patience at the moment. Passing a man who had the courage to speak to him the man only got out three words before Pierre shot him a glare that shut him up and sent him running. The fact he could so easily strike fear in the hearts of those around him made him chuckle covering his anger for a brief second.

Grabbing the gilded door he twisted it and yanked it hard making it fly open, and as he observed the one whom had summoned him the anger melted from his face. This man too seemed angry and this not made Pierre smile slightly, his mind soon changing about whether this would be a complete waste of his time or not. Looking at the chosen that stood in front of him he knew exactly what this man was here for and he was ready for the task.

Ever since the forsaken had managed to get out of the pit of doom Pierre had been doing little more then vigorously trying to get to this position and he was ready for something different. ‘Well I guess this is damn important’ he silently muttered to himself. Looking at the man in front of him he stuck his hands inside the pockets of his jackets to keep them warm.

“Ahh Lero, and to what might I give the pleasure of this visit?”

The answer that the man would give was obvious, but it was in his nature to toy with those who spoke with him, never exactly letting anyone know exactly what he’s thinking. A grin was plastered on his face and he stepped in motioning to a chair as Pierre took one setting on it with a certain grace. Seizing saidin he channeled the pitcher of dark wine to pour two glasses and using flows of air and a little water he brought the glasses over to each of them. Taking a sip from the wine he laid it next to him now ignoring it as he awaited the oncoming conversation.

There was a noticeable pause between Pierre’s gesture and Leroduca’s response, one intended to demonstrate the Chosen’s lack of patience for pleasantries. Body tensing, he shot the other man a flat stare over his shoulder and channeled the glass away with a thin weave of Air. It landed gently upon a table a scant few feet to his right with a dull crystal thunk.

“You know,” Leroduca replied dryly, turning to face Pierre fully. From the interior of his coat he withdrew two scrolls and swept the table clean except for the glass, with another intricate flow of Air. He spread the first out, revealing a detailed map of Lugard. The second was of the city’s palace. “There’s a festival being held tonight and tomorrow in Lugard. The city is already crawling with visitors, which will give us the perfect cover.” Here he paused, beckoning with one gloved hand for the other Chosen to approach. “I’ve been told that a group of performers are to entertain the prince and his family in the city’s main square later tonight.”

The risks involved in such a plot did not go unnoticed to Leroduca. The implications were hardly subtle, and the Chosen knew that no sane man would ever fathom attempting such a feat. Provoking a man who could channel in a crowd of thousands was dangerous, not only to both himself and his partner, but the innocent bystanders as well. While Leroduca cared not for the wellbeing of lesser people in this world, he was not a proponent of needless slaughter. It was a messy business, killing, and the less deceased he had to account for, the better, and easier.

“They won’t expect an attack on the family,” he continued, his voice like liquid silver. “But that doesn’t mean they won’t be prepared. Of course, our plan is a bit different, if you can recall.” He tapped his finger against the western gate of the city. “We’ll Travel just outside of the city and ride in, to avoid suspicion and detection on the prince’s behalf. All that’s necessary is for us to be in the crowd then and everything else should go smoothly. Pending the boy cooperates, of course.”

It was a simple plan, really. They stood in the crowd and channeled, forcing a response from the boy. If he so valued his life, he would cooperate, and Leroduca doubted that any man wielding saidin would remain quiet when two of the most powerful male channelers were but hundreds of paces from him.

“Do you have any questions?” he asked, pale gaze settling on the other man.

A ghost of a sly smile slid across Pierre’s lips, as the thud of a crystalline glass hit the cold wood below. Leaning back in his chair he let Lero start his the conversation with a few explanations of the plan that Pierre quite frankly didn’t care about. Sure, he listened, but nothing more then that, and as the man droned on about what they where to do with the boy one of the maps the man had produced caught his attention.

The finely crafted map showed the layout of this city, Lugard, which to his understanding had been built from the remnants of Arthur Hawkwing’s empire. The way the people of this world conducted themselves, and the simplicity of their living almost amused Pierre. Annoyed as he was with these primeval people who adorned themselves with the name of Aes Sedai, they did have their uses when the chosen didn’t feel like doing one of The Great Lords commands.

Studying the map with increasing intensity he pinpointed the square and where is laid in correspondence with the rest of the city. The labrynth that was laid out before him was so much different from anything that had been anywhere near this city he had a hard time placing the city in his mind. Finding several places that it could be as Lero went on about the boy’s family, and Pierre patiently awaited the time when he could talk.

As the chosen in front of him finished he looked up at him for a second, and flipped his hair slightly out of the way so he could see better. Leaning closer to the map he laid his elbows on his knees and examined the map a little bit closer letting a few seconds pass before responding.

“I don’t think the problem will be getting him to respond,” He said letting his voice float out like a flowing liquid over the space between them, “and I don't really give a damn about how many people we kill."

Bending his head up slightly and flipping his hair just a little bit, and bending his fingers slightly he let them pop in a clear resounding note. As he looked back down to continue to study the map he got the cup off the table next to him with a simple weave of air. The cold crystal stung the tips of his fingers as he brought the wine over to his lips and he sipped on it for a second quenching his thirst. Setting it back down with a quick, but gentle weave it made a soft click before it was once again lost in the men’s plots.

“If we kill too many people,” Leroduca replied wryly, weaving a sharp flow of Air and rolling the maps back up with a snap. “Then we expose ourselves to hundreds more. The Great Lord didn’t request subtlety simply because he felt like it.” There was an edge to his voice as he collected his things and headed for the door. He glanced over his shoulder when they entered the corridor, his footsteps carrying him towards the stableyard. “Go gather your things, we’ll leave in ten minutes.”

Sinnero’s servants eyed the Chosen warily as he hurried down towards the barn affixed to the mansion. There awaiting him was a tall, sleek stallion with a coat as black as pitch, dancing lightly in the grasp of two stablehands. It was a fine creature, bred from those only gifted to the kings and queens scattered across the south and east, yet a bit jumpy for Leroduca’s liking. Its dark eyes glittered with a keen intelligence, fixing on his approaching form when he drew closer. Khaz’an was his name, which meant fiery spirit in the Old Tongue. Very fitting.

The intricate, high cantled saddle worked with silver sat easily against the horse’s sloping withers, the rich leather bridle jingling ceaselessly as the Khaz’an chomped at the bit and tossed his head. The beast needed to run; since Leroduca Traveled mostly from city to city, he was never truly given the chance. Not as if the Chosen cared for what it wanted or needed; it was an animal, inferior to humans, driven by instinct and its desire to survive. It was but a fiber of the millions of threads woven throughout the Pattern, and hardly something for Leroduca S’Daithyn to be concerned with.

The horse was fast, and that’s all that the Chosen cared about.

He was just mounting up when Pierre returned, saddlebags in hand. With a hard hand and firm leg, the black stallion quieted beneath him, patient as the other Chosen selected his mount and tacked up. There was no rush for this, despite the urge that he couldn’t quite quell. To hurry something was to possibly err, and the Great Lord wasn’t fond of mistakes, especially ones as large as revealing the return of the ‘Forsaken’ into the world.

Once ready and the stableyard cleared of servants, Leroduca embraced saidin and channeled, watching impassively the bright, silver-white line that flickered to life five feet ahead of them. It rotated, exposing a window of a nondescript, lightly forested area. Booting Khaz’an forward, he passed through the gateway and waited until Pierre had followed suit before letting it wink out.

The sun had nearly fallen below the western horizon by the time the duo had caught sight of Lugard’s outer walls. Even from a distance he could see and hear the festivities that were already beginning, settling a twisted knot of nervousness in his stomach slightly. The more chaos, the easier it would be for them to blend in. The easier it would be to capture his Dragon.

Fuck you

Right now Pierre didn’t really care what the Darklord or Lero wanted. They were forsaken, not some vagabond that hides like a child. If he had even the slightest desire to kill there would be hardly a man, woman, or child on this world that would hope to come close to countering him. If the thirteen forsaken would just bloody come together this world would be there’s within the month, but it seems that there was a lack of sanity in these people anymore. As Lero left Pierre glared at the door as he left wondering what he would do about the man should he become a problem.

Shaking his head slightly he went about the room getting things ready for the trip that would soon partake. As a small servant came in his room and bowed low Pierre was still getting this ready and didn’t think it would be safe to talk at all. Seeing the expression the boy was smart enough to stay out of his way and remain quite as his master milled about trying to find everything he needed.

“Go fetch my tack and be quick about it!” He barked as he got the last few things and shoved them into his pack.

Following the servant out into the hallway, the boy was around the next corner before Pierre was even out of the room. Good, he didn’t wish to wait on more incompetence today. Walking towards the stable the boy met him in the hallway dragging the tack along with him, looking as if his arms might fall off at any moment.

“Give that here! When I get back we shall have a lesson about quickness,” He barked as he ripped the tack out of his hands and walked into the stables.

Smoothing out his features and becoming icy calm again so as to not hint to Lero of his anger, he walked over to one of his horses, a gelding, and put the saddle on it. Buckling the straps and pulling them and tightening the miscellaneous pieces on it making sure that it would be ride able he looked over at the man. Suppressing a glare he jumped up on the brown gelding, and taking the reigns he looked to see if the man had opened the gateway yet. Clicking the horse, A’vron he had been named as watcher in the old tounge, he headed toward the man. The vertical slash of a gate twisted, and turned to give way to a lightly forested place, and quietly he followed.

Still angry, but less vicious he followed the man through the darkness of the forest around them. Heading toward the city of Lugard Pierre had several hours to brood over Lero, and what his next step in his plan would be. It would be discreet, something that no one would see at first, but the consequences of it would be very beneficial to Pierre. He couldn’t conjure the ability to smile, but inside he had a feeling that before long the world would fear the thirteen and quiver when their names were spoken too loud.

The silence that had fallen between the two men was inconsequential to Leroduca, serving only to magnify the distant sounds of the forest that spooked his mount. Khaz’an balked at the slightest of noises, his black eyes rolling madly in a futile attempt to look at everything all at once. He could feel the rigid tension roiling off of the black stallion beneath him, yet he didn’t give in, keeping his hand firm on the reins even as the duo at last broke cover onto flat, rolling plains.

Lugard’s walls were drawing closer, the city lights spilling over the parapets in bright reds and oranges. He could hear the faint hum of music and laughter; it twisted a slight snarl onto his features, prompting him to dig his heel a little more firmly into the sweating horse’s side. It snorted and lengthened its stride, eager for the run, at last working out of its earlier fit.

We better not be too late, Leroduca thought grimly, bright blue eyes sweeping up the walls as the two Chosen hit the packed dirt road. The gates were thrown open, heralding whoever dared to pass through them and into a world where all reality, all troubles, and all manners of work were suspended for two days. Such celebrations were dangerous, always short-lived, yet the people loved them, for it was a time when they could give themselves over to the festive spirit and the intoxicating allure of alcohol.

It would be perfect.

No sooner had Leroduca passed beneath the archway did he find himself almost lost within the writhing crowd. The crowd barely parted for the passage of the horses, making it relatively difficult to navigate and clear that riding to their destination was not possible. The Chosen scowled and forced his way through to an upstanding inn with a garish lacquered sign reading The Bard and the Maid, ignoring the dismissive gesture of the innkeeper himself. He cared not if the place had vacancy, slipping his leg over the high pommel and sliding to the ground easily.

“You will stable our horses,” he said firmly, producing several gold from a pouch in his jacket pocket. “For tonight. We have business to attend to.” He handed the reins over without waiting for a word, since the man’s greedy face was enough of an answer. He headed north towards the square, though not without a detour down a maze of dank, grimy alleyways.

“Remember,” he said quietly after a few moments of weaving through the alleys. He barely spared the boy behind him a second glance. “Be discreet. And don’t do anything foolish.”

There, he thought, and without preamble, raised his hand. A gateway flickered to life, rotating to reveal a darkened rooftop. Leroduca swept through and immediately strode to the edge of the flat expanse, his gaze turning predatory when he spotted the massive gathering they had been seeking two streets away. By the looks of things, it had just started.

“Let’s go.”

I’m not your packhorse

Pierre thought as he shot a menacing glare at Lero, only to learn that the man was talking to a man. Feeling embarrassed, but not willing to let down he was glad that Lero hadn’t been looking over at that moment to see him. Swinging off the horse and onto the ground in one simple, but graceful movement he landed on the ground below him. Handing the leather reigns to the man not sparing him a second glance he looked toward where Lero was going.

As they walked through the doors and into a large square that was around them he wished that they would just get along with this. Pierre didn’t like being with this man any more then he could tell this man didn’t like to be with him, and he was eager to be done with it. Still, Lero was a viable asset in his plan, and it would be best if he didn’t kill or anger him right now. So he went down the grimy alley ways, their dark expanses less then what most people would think someone looking like either of the two forsaken looked like would be walking down.

As they walked down, and Lero silently talked to him as the maze went deeper and deep the glare returned. It was a menacing stare that dared the man to say another word, but he didn’t look back, and that was probably for the best.

“I don’t intend to” He darkly mumbled as Lero’s hand came up.
The vertical slash that abruptly appeared out of the air at Lero’s unneeded upraised hand twisted and grew. Opening to a roof top that looked as if it was facing a rather large square the two men stepped out of the alley and onto the platform. A ways in the distance they spotted a large crowd that was in a square, and it looked as if it was just beginning.

“Let’s go,”

Looking at the man as Pierre stepped closer to the edge of the of the roof hoping to see how Lero proposed to get off this roof. The drop didn’t look too far, but he wasn’t sure what kind of injuries he would sustain if he jumped. That didn’t really matter, but it would be rather odd for those down below to see two people fall from the edge of the roof and get right back up. At least now things would get dirty.
